Egyptian anise seed tea, also known as yansoon, is a soothing, aromatic drink enjoyed for its distinct sweet and slightly licorice-like flavor. It's traditionally made by boiling anise seeds in water and sweetening with honey, creating a comforting beverage that is both flavorful and healing. Anise seed tea is known for its many health benefits, including supporting digestion, easing bloating, and promoting a healthy immune system. It is also rich in antioxidants, which help protect the body from free radicals. Whether you enjoy it for its taste or its wellness properties, Egyptian yansoon is a delightful and beneficial drink.
Ingredients
1 teaspoon anise seeds
2 cups water
raw honey (to taste)
Instructions
Prepare the Tea
Start by combining water with anise seeds in a small pot. Bring it to a boil, but be careful not to let it boil for more than 30 seconds. If you allow it to boil too long, the drink will become darker and lose some of the benefits of the anise seeds. Aim for a vibrant golden-brown color, which is ideal for preserving the flavors and health benefits.
Strain and Serve
Once the water has boiled, remove it from the heat. Set a strainer over your cup and carefully pour the hot tea into it, ensuring that only the clear, aromatic liquid passes through.
Sweeten and Enjoy

Add raw honey to taste, stirring well to mix it in. This will not only sweeten the drink but also enhance its soothing properties.
