The Origin of “Okay, khalas!”™
“Okay, khalas!” was born from a playful response to the anticipated negativity The Egyptian Cook often receives over how he prepares certain dishes. “Khalas” (خلاص), meaning enough, finished, or done depending on the context, became his way of humorously telling his critics to back off. Rather than arguing over what is or is not the “original” recipe, the phrase reflects the fact that everyone cooks differently and there is no need to fight over food.
