Asalaam Alaikum!
Meet Muhammed Elgammal, fondly known as The Egyptian Cook, is an Egyptian-American Muslim who resides in the United States. From an early age, his love for cooking was nurtured in his family kitchen under the guidance of his mother, whom he affectionately calls Mama. Those small childhood moments — sneaking bites of dinner and being given kitchen tasks to keep him busy— sparked a lifelong passion for Egyptian cuisine and the traditions that connect him to his heritage.
Behind The Egyptian Cook
Muhammed’s journey has not been without challenges. Diagnosed with Stargardt’s disease at a young age, he is legally blind, facing unique obstacles both in the kitchen and in content creation. Instead of allowing these challenges to define him, he uses them as fuel to innovate, adapt, and inspire. Whether maneuvering around the kitchen or crafting visually engaging videos, his resilience and creativity shine through in every dish he makes.
Beyond cooking, Muhammed is a proud graduate of Walsh College, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration management. His business education helped him build and grow his personal brand, which began with casual social media posts during school and has since evolved into a vibrant community of more than 400,000 followers across platforms. His content is known for humor, authenticity, and his signature catchphrases — “Okay, khalas!” for dramatic and playful yelling moments, “Where’s the lahma?” for humor and lighthearted fun, and “Yallah, Bismillah,” a faith-rooted expression said as a prayer before eating or drinking. These phrases have become a beloved part of his videos, reflecting both his personality and the joyful spirit he brings to the kitchen.
Today, Muhammed continues to bring Egyptian cuisine to audiences around the world. Through storytelling, cultural pride, and his passion for preserving the flavors he grew up with, he invites followers into his kitchen to experience Egypt one recipe at a time. Whether he’s sharing tips, traditions, or the comforting nostalgia of home, Muhammed embodies the idea that food is a universal language that brings people together.
